House of AWT (Artists Working Together)
LGBTQ House and Ball culture
The House of AWT (Artists Working Together) was formed in 2020 to support creative queer young people of color, including those from the House and Ballroom community, and give them opportunities to develop and sustain their talents through education, mentorship, and career development. House of AWT provides opportunities for young people to work side-by-side with professional artists to gain free studio training in various art forms, including dance and choreography, audio/video production, fashion design, music production, and street art. Their goal is to make visible previously untold stories and unrealized talents of LGBTQ youth of color.
In 2021, with support from a Living Cultures grant, the House of AWT will offer a series of online Vogue dance classes taught by “Legendary” Sean Milan and other artists from the House and Ball community, as well as a series of virtual Balls.
